It was our second year participating in VBS at church, and WOW it was a good time.
About two million kids attended. Katriel was a camper, and Johanna was a preschool leader. I was a student leader.
While some of the girls and I were at VBS, Marie and Nan went out for dinner.
I was a leader for one of the groups, and Tabitha helped in another one. Johanna started to help in crafts, but was then asked to help with preschool.
Katriel was a camper.
Also this week – Nigel and I had an information day for students at USCUpstate.
And Katriel ended up with a bug bite so inflamed that we went to Urgent Care.
True story.
The doctor walked into our room – 9:15PM and says, “You’re a few days early!”
Sure enough, we had had Katriel at the same Urgent Care LAST July the night after we moved here for the exact same issue.
Katriel’s perspective it is the same bug that is after her, and it found her again after looking all year long.
The text came looking for eager helping hands.
We were delighted to respond.
A few hours later, we’d prepped about 100 of these!
These will be handed out to the kids who come to VBS!
For the first time in a handful of years I did not volunteer at VBS.
Stewart was also not able to volunteer as he just had a lot of days off work for Costa Rica.
Nigel lead a team. Marie helped in Bible. Tab was a youth helper for a team.
Johanna and Katriel were campers.
The boys started attending VBS in 2006, and Stewart started assisting in 2012. Nigel started helping in 2014, me in 2015, Marie in 2016, and now Tab in 2018.
Stewart has been a Bible teacher since the beginning, and Nigel, Marie and I have done different things each year. This year Nigel assisted in leading group 4, Marie assisted Stewart in Bible, and Tab and I lead group 2.
The theme was Time Lab where we went back in time to see that God is the same yesterday, today and forever.
Here is a week in review.
Hanny seeing the time lab.
Nigel’s crew.
My crew.
While Nigel served in Costa Rica this past week, Stewart, Marie and I had been serving the campers at the VBS at Pittsford Community Church. Tabitha, Johanna, and Katriel all got to embark on Operation Arctic. The emphasis all week was the Bible.
B = Book of Books
I = Incredible Impact
B = Bedrock Base
L = God’s Love Letter to us
E = Exciting to Explore
Marie worked in the four-year-old group (Katriel’s group).
I led group 1A (Johanna’s group).
Stewart was a Bible teacher.
Tabitha was in her final year as a camper. Fifth graders get to do their camping out in the “Garage” where they follow a slightly different rotation and dig a lot deeper into the work. Next year Tabitha gets to come back to VBS as an assistant.
