With me starting a new job this past week, Katriel decided she was ready to take on more work around the house to help Mama out. Since a lot of us like boiled eggs and we go through a lot, she stepped up to the pot to take that over for me.
Meanwhile, Archery was cancelled last night, and co-op is cancelled today, because of the hurricane that is on it’s way.
Tab was able to participate in night ops again this year. That meant navigating through the woods with a team in stealth mode completing challenges along the way.
Their squad didn’t win, but they had a great time anyway.
Did I mention they do this until 3AM?

When have I ever said that before?
All I was going to do was paint the shelves so they didn’t stand out so much. Normally I prefer wood to white, but these just didn’t fit with everything else going on in the house (kitchen cabinets are white and the rooms open to one another, too).
After consulting my friend Diane, I intended to paint these shelves white and paint the back of them a deep grey. Then I intended to paint the fireplace a deep grey as well.
I bought expensive paint, like the kind I had used in NY to pain my kitchen, my laundry room, and Nan’s kitchen.
And then the paint wouldn’t stick.
Turns out it wasn’t ALL real wood.
Once I’d started there was no turning back. So I had to just use plain 123Primer and wall paint. I hope it holds up!
The shelves were made of the same fake wood (who knew!) so we decided, instead, to get new shelves and leave them wood toned.
I am very happy with the results.
I decided not to mess with the fireplace and back of the shelves because I was just D.O.N.E. at that point. It’s almost time to start my new job. And I want to move on the the den and the dining room updates while I am at it.
And I forgot to share the kitchen update. Just a wall, and we painted the hardware for the shelves a deep gold.
Sometimes paint is just okay. Sometimes it is good. Sometimes it is a HOME RUN.
This one is a home run in my opinion.
As summer wound down, Johanna and Tabitha joined the choir. Meanwhile, our worship pastor was approaching retirement. One of his outgoing gifts to the congregation was to lead a magnificent night of worship. It was amazing.
Katriel and I had to duck out about 66% of the way through as she endured a nose bleed. We eventually got back in before the end.
At the conclusion, we took part in the most remarkable spread of food and desserts.
We will miss Pastor Stephen, but trust God will use Pastor Phil to lead us in worship.
We love our new church and getting to know more of our church family.
Since 2006 or so, our family has had the chance to participate in homeschool sports. In NY, we enjoyed first HIS Soccer and HIS Baseball, and later Scarlet Knights.
The big thing Johanna asked for as we relocated last year was to play soccer again. The stupid lockdown kept her from playing in fall 2020 and we were delighted when the LORD quickly and gently pointed us to Upwards Soccer last summer.
Katriel decided she would play this year as well. After a few weeks of practices on Tuesday nights, today was their first game.
I’m not sure what the score was for either game…
but we all WON as far as I am concerned.
Every practice and every game is started with prayer. Half way through every practice and half way through every game the teams sit for a devotion. Last year we worked through James and this year they are working through characteristics of God.

We spent the afternoon at Mrs. Kelly’s to work on the firestarting badge. Katriel was also invited to join in as a “younger person” to be taught by the older girls.
These young ladies are gems.
Johanna signed up to help run concessions for co op. She gets to do this twice this semester.
Google Duo keeps these two buddies in contact.
I’m grateful for technology and for Asher.
Before she was born, we called her “Ducky.”
She has received more than a few ducks through the years.
She’s been travelling around the house with “Ducky” the last few days.
